Although I am only 22 years old, in my short life much has happened to shape and mold the person before you. I have friends from many different walks of life. I have traveled and visited people of different races, religions, and cultures; shaping a very accepting and understanding opinion of the human nature. There are very few quirks or habits in a person I cannot see past and accept as part of that person as a whole. One personality flaw I absolutely cannot tolerate is the MTV generation. The boys that think Steve-O, Bam Margara, and Johnny Knoxville are “role models” and would like to behave like them, speak like them, and create an entire personality shaped on and around these individuals. These young people watch “The Hills, Pregnant and 16, and Jackass” taking this alleged reality garbage straight to heart and mind and thus creating a ripple effect of negative consequences for the impressionable viewers and fans of these individuals. Paris Hilton, Lady Gaga, and Lindsay Lohan have all found throngs of women to idolize them, mimic their behavior, styles, and take interest in their many projects, products, and consumer products. Those same young people who live life in a blissful ignorance, believing the “Real World” ends for vacations in-between seasons, and everyone spends Spring Break in Cancun. Any person who would rather watch a less than average individual live their messy life, instead of doing something to better their own can kindly keep their pet monkeys, righteous attitudes, spray tans, fake personalities, and “reality as made for your viewing pleasure” at home. The real world is outside your front door; take a walk to the library.

I love it. I am older than you; however my daughters are your age and I did not tolerate acting or talking like anything that came off of MTV. I think most of the rap music is obnoxious and that these people off of MTV and its reality shows are not helpful to our young people. I always told my daughters to be a leader and not a follower. Be an individual. Great Job!
ReplyDeleteI have been watching Jackass since I was a kid and have never thought any of them to be role models. That's just me though. I'm sure some idiots think "I WAN 2 B LIEK JONY NAWXVIL!!11!" after watching the show a few times. If you think about him though, he went from making videos for Big Brother magazine to being in movies (not just Jackass 1, 2, and 3). In a way he can be a role model. Bam Margera has gotten thousands of kids to start skating, so I give him props for doing so. Steve-O is just an idiot.
ReplyDeleteThe other shows you mentioned are extremely annoying. Although you didn't mention it, Jersey Shore is the worst show on MTV by far.
I couldnt agree more, i hate "reality TV" as you would have to be as thick as the planet jupiter for it not to get through you that it is in fact not reality in any way. Maybe reality if your parents had way too much money and you were swimming in a bath of hundred dollar bills, but i would guess you are not so it is not your reality. Women who deface themselves and show thier "stuff" on live TV (paris hilton, lynsey lohan, and britney spears) glorify that to peoples kids and devalue the sanctity of their own "stuff". Can you tell i agree?
ReplyDeleteThe term "reality tv" is so misleading. There is nothing real on these shows. MTV has never had a quality program. Jack ass is the stupidist show I have seen. My boys watch it but they watch purely to see what the idoits will do next.I agree with Brenda in the matter of allowing my kids to talk like this shows. My sons would never talk that way. I suppose they are fine as long as you are watching them for entertainment only, but realize it is all staged.
ReplyDeleteI agree those are horrible role models for teens. I do watch too much reality tv though but I never considered those people to be role models.
ReplyDeleteI hardly have time for tv anymore, but I know what you mean.
ReplyDeletei agree, it is horrible for teens to think they these people are even role models.
ReplyDeleteI agree, most people rather watch life than live it...however the majority of People in every society are Honestly just Repeats, they are spectators and crowd formers...no many stand as individuals or follow something their own way
