That place where everybody knows your name and knows your morning cup of joy, Starbucks. I have worked for the company for over 2 years now, been a supervisor for 1 year and absolutely love it. It's amazing to see people walk in looking tired and angry, and leaving with a smile on their face because the person that welcomed you by name and already has your cup of sanity being made, has a smile on their face first. The store I previously worked at is close to the airport and is also surrounded by housing subdivisions, so I had my regular customers and people from around the U.S. and the world come in. We've had customers travel to different places around the world and send us post cards and bring us back gifts. The best one I've gotten so far is a pearl necklace from a lovely woman that had went to China. Different partners have been given Coach purses, jewelry, clothing, and the most popular, food. Customers will come in with a box of donuts or a bag of breakfast taco's to help get our morning started. At night, we'll be brought BBQ, soup, cakes, and other homemade goods. Christmas is the most unhealthy time for partners due to boxes and boxes of Christmas cookies and goodies that come in everyday from our Starbucks family.
Don't get me wrong, Starbucks can be stressful, especially when people are snapping at you wondering why their drink isn't in their hand as soon as they ordered, or if there wasn't extra whipped cream on their skinny latte. Random fact, Starbucks whipped cream has over 700 calories in it; don't even bother with the skinny. People can be rude and disgustingly mean, but we learn to shake it off and move on. Since I've been at my currant store, I've realized customers there are much more, vocal. Not only in the sense of being rude, but other customers are quick to come to our aid and have gotten in arguments defending us.
All in all, it's a great job that has taught me a few things about business, people, family, and how I should treat others in the customer service industry.

What a nice blog. I love Starbucks myself. Did not know the fact about the whip cream, I will be passing on that for now on.Your blog was well thought out and enjoyable. Nice to hear you have a job you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog. Sounds like an awesome job!
ReplyDeleteI also love STARBUCKS!!!!!! I don't do dairy so that's a good thing for me......I do soy! I feel that any job that deals with custome service has to deal with the good and bad in people. However if we just smile it will brighten someone's day!
ReplyDeleteI don't really like starbucks, but my mom does. It's a bit weird ordering for her and having the person ask if the tea is for Mrs. Mary.
ReplyDeleteOK so this blog made me stop and think about how i talk to the people in drive thru when i hit starbuck's now iknow how things seems to be..and if they get treats and goodie's i wanna work for starbuck's..lol j/k but she did give us a great insite on how an employee fils at work. She veri passionate about her job..ughh i love starbuck's
ReplyDeleteI have only been to starbucks a few times since I try to stay away from caffine, a little promise I made when I was about eight. though I worked in service to others and I have to say this blog reminded me of how enjoyable it is to help others, see smiles and the occasional frown cause in the end you did your job and got something out of it. i enjoyed this and am glad you enjoy your work! :)
ReplyDeleteI used to work at a starbucks myself and out of all my jobs this one was my favorite. This isn't saying very much because my last two jobs were at pizza hut and domino's. The thing i loved about starbucks was the staff that i worked with. Morning staff sucked but night shift was were it was at. I used to hate how akward some customers made me feel when they were trying to hit on me. Also i quit because we got an outside hire for a manager and he had no idea what he was doing. He moved stuff everyday and made work life hell. i loved working for starbucks and i would work there again anyday. - Miranda Scott
ReplyDeleteWish people knew that "people are people", not perfect, the spelling of people/perfect is somewhat different. Get some order not perfect and they act like you put a hit out on thier children. Hate people that act like that, including myself when im in a bad mood and I do it, cant be too hypocritical can I, though i am seldom blatenly rude, and if i am im in a car and they dont hear me anyways, just meh wife does.
ReplyDeleteI to love starbucks. I work at kroger, and I know about customer service and its hard to deal with alot of the rude customers. Most of them arguing that the price tag said the product was 50 cents less then what it rang up. very good blog.
ReplyDeleteI would love to work at Starbucks. It seems really amazing. It would be awesome getting gifts from different people. :)
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't want to work at Starbucks. Doesn't seem like that fun of a job (to me), but you like it and that's what matters.
