Driving your four wheel drive truck takes experience and a whole lot more guts. There are so many different factors in making it safely back home. Trusting your friends or spotters, as we sometimes refer to each other, is key. Having a second or even third set of eyes for additional help in an obstacle is a tremendous help.
When my friends and I go riding the trails or want to hit a few mud pits, we are gather at a pre determined location. Everyone meets in their respected rig, or truck. The first thing we do is check to make sure we have the proper recovery gear. Airing down your tires is also a veteran trick to doing better on the trail. Once everyone has inspected his or her truck, the ride is on. We head out in a single file line to the trail. As we come up to first obstacles, your passenger will get out and inspect it to make sure it is safe to attempt. Even if it does not seem that safe, we still give it a go.
The point is to challenge yourself and your rig. We like to say, “If it ain’t broke, you didn’t try hard enough.” As the day goes by many crazy and interesting things will happen. Trucks break, they get stuck, motors fail; you name it, it can happen. At the end of the day, everyone has a great time and we can not wait to fix everything and do it all over!

I have never done anything close to what you described. Don't get me wrong I have an open mind and would probably join if invited. The fact of the matter is I don't understand why anybody would want to drive around in big mud pits. All of that sticky, messy mud would not be fun to me. Plus if my truck got stuck in the mud I would feel so abandoned. I just love my mode of transportation entirely too much. Also the long job of cleaning up the mess you have made on your truck (though a lot of people just leave it) must not be too exciting. Everybody has their poison and whatever makes you happy it doesn’t bother me. -Miranda Scott
ReplyDeleteWow seems like an expensive hobby. Fixing your truck everytime you take it out seems kinda crazy.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Brittney, sounds a little crazy and a whole lot expensive. I know that I live on a very tight budget with school costs and living expenses. I don't know how you can afford to do this but,as long as you can finacially, then I say go have fun! I just could think of better ways to have fun or better ways to spend my money but, then we are two different people and too each their own.
ReplyDeleteI don't see the fun in working on my car just to trash it and pay to set it up for failure again. people can do alot of things to pass time or get a rush, but that's just a waste of money, time and a danger to your own life in my opinion. everyone does what they want.
ReplyDeleteI only went 4 wheeling once and,I must admit I had a good time. This is not an activity I will likely take part in again, but I can see you enjoy it. The trust factor among your friends is freshing. To often people dont engage in trust builting and fun activity. Nice blog, I enjoyed reading about your hobby.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Brittney. This sounds expensive, but if you dont mind fixing it everytime and paying for it, then why not? People pay a lot of money on things they like. I liked your blog, it was nice.
ReplyDeleteWow!! This is scary to me, how can you attempt so many things even when you are aware they are dangerous? It's not so much about the fixing part and the price that i'm wondering about it's basically about, how do you come out of these stunts without hurting yourself?
ReplyDeleteSounds exciting and quite the rush, but I have to back up Brittany, it seems it would be an expensive hobby.

I went mudding once, not planned that way just was headed to a friend's house. A friend who lived near a river after a nice Texas rain. I admit i had fun, but i never thought about making a "sport" out of it, im old school i think sports should require brain and brawn, not a lack of both and an excess of money to spend, but who knows. Some people try to call chess a sport now, so compared to that, play on!
ReplyDeleteI never thought of looking at it that way.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting.
Sounds like alot of fun, and people will spend money on anything if they enjoy it. The point isn't to look at the money you spend, money is replaceable. Memories are not. :)
